The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced its intention to invest $300 million into a new Organic Transition Initiative program as part of the USDA Food System Transformation Framework. The historic move will jump-start industry growth and expansion of organic acreage by making the organic transition process more accessible, particularly for beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers.
This initiative will deliver wrap-around technical assistance, including farmer-to-farmer mentoring; provide direct support through conservation financial assistance and additional crop insurance assistance and support market development projects in targeted markets.
