From the soil to the supply chain, sustainability across agriculture involves a level of participation from all players in our industry.

We are keen as beans to showcase the green future for our emerging Australian coffee industry, and we can't wait for you to find out how one of our inaugural AgriFutures Rural Women’s Acceleration Grant recipients plans to feed our growing population in a more sustainable fashion. These are just some of the green innovations and ideas which will transform our industry.

Forget the long black, try a greener coffee right from our backyard

We import more than 99 per cent of coffee into Australia. The potential growth for the Australian coffee industry is huge and the integration of sustainability practices across the supply chain is tipped to be a game changer, allowing Australian coffee growers to compete against imported coffee. Thinking inside the box key to feeding future generations

With net zero targets front of mind, Fran McLaughlin says it’s time to start looking at the sustainability of our food supply chains. Fran was recently announced as one of seven recipients of the inaugural AgriFutures Rural Women’s Acceleration Grant. Her idea, ‘Feed the Bush’ is set to make fresh produce more accessible to rural communities and will provide a sustainable alternative to broadacre vegetable production, enabling crops to be grown in new areas.

Roadmap with a focus on sustainability for the Australian rice industry

The Australian rice industry has developed a new roadmap focused on achieving an aspirational water productivity target of 1.5 tonnes of rice per megalitre of water by 2026 to future proof the industry. This target represents a 75% increase on 2021 water-use efficiency – which already places the Australian rice industry as the most water efficient in the world.

New research to explore potential of pongamia as renewable fuel

For centuries, pongamia has been used across the Indian subcontinent to fuel lanterns and stoves, make soap, tan leathers, and used in traditional medicine. Native to northern parts of Queensland and the Northern Territory, this hardy legume tree now offers an opportunity for production as a sustainable, lower emission alternative to non-renewable transport fuels.
