Domestic organics regulation impact statementThe Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has entered the next stage of consultation on options to improve Australia's domestic organics regulatory framework.

They have released a Consultation Regulation Impact Statement (RIS) to seek comments on how the Australian Government could regulate organic products domestically. It examines the policy problem under consideration, as well as potential regulatory and non-regulatory options for reform.

The public is invited you to read and provide feedback on the consultation regulation impact statement.

Together with other feedback received from stakeholders, submissions to this consultation will be used to prepare a recommended policy option for Australian Government consideration.

In addition, a survey is open until 5pm (AEDT) Thursday 17 March 2022.

We encourage your involvement. If you have questions, contact domesticfoodregulation@awe.gov.au.

Survey on the domestic organics market

Between December 2021 and February 2022, the Department sought feedback from people across the organics sector about the domestic organics market. While consultation findings are subject to further analysis, early observations indicate that consumers have inconsistent understandings of organic claims and that many businesses perceive a level of a false and misleading conduct in the sector.

The Department has considered your feedback and used it to inform the regulation impact statement which is now available for consultation.
